Connection

Let’s tell the truth, men are typically loners, each of us wanting to tackle all of life on our own. The result? At best, life just goes on, no excitement, no fulfillment. At worst, broken families, lost jobs, poor health.

Yes, we all have friends with whom we can share a beer, watch the game, or attend a movie. In The Surround men create deep connections with other men. Each man is there for the other men to provide listening and experiential feedback rather than advice. We learn to listen deeply to one another to help us and them fully understand the moment, and our repeating patterns (Broken Records). By dwelling in that space with support from brothers from other mothers, men more easily find solutions to challenges, and restore relationships, success and happiness.

What do men bring to The Surround? What will you bring? You will bring your challenges, your pain, your truth. We have found that when a man tells the truth in this circle, he has more power and greater freedom in his life; relationships improve, work and business flourish. Sometimes, it’s as simple as that; come to a meeting, tell the truth about a challenge, go out into life and the challenge is suddenly easier to face, the solution just shows up. The listening provided by the men helps us each to get to the heart of the matter of our challenge or pain. You may hear other men’s experiences that will help you; others may ask guiding questions that also help get your own answers.

The consistent, committed connection with other men provides the real magic available. Building the connection over time deepens your trust of and with the men. This provides a floor to stand on even when it looks like there is nothing solid beneath you. The men are there for you, at meetings and in between. Think of how it would be for at least one other man to know your truth, your pain, your challenge and be available to listen at almost any time. There is real power in this connection, in this relationship and his listening. You may see the next step and have the courage and power to take it.

No major issues/challenges? Really? Well, if this is true and life is just going along just fine, how long will that last? How long until an issue at work arises? Or one with your wife? Or with the kids? Your health?

I am not wishing any of this on you or anybody. However, it’s my experience that men are always facing at least one challenge and usually more. Once one is completed, the next is usually right behind it. There is nothing wrong with this or with you. This is the life that is given to men. The Surround empowers you to be ready for the next challenge. It’s important to make these connections when things are good, when nothing major is up in your face. The connections will be there for you when difficulties arise. You will have a firm foundation to communicate your truth, to explain the situation, for others to listen, and for you to get feedback to help you, yourself, find the solution.
